The house at 550 Campbell Road, now owned by Marjorie and Cynthia Sorensen, was the original farmhouse for West Fruit Farm owned by George P. Morgan at one time. In 1911, Frank B. White renamed it Shorewood Farms. He was President of Shorewood Farms Corporation, Edwin House was Vice President and Walter B. House was: a Trustee. The farm was mainly orchard with every type of fruit tree imaginable. There was a large barn where Harbor View Apartments are now located, an apple storage building, now a small cottage, and a chicken/turkey coop and egg candling building that is now a house owned by Mark Miller. The farm was later known as the Howard farm. Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Heuer had it at one time and raised turkeys, rented rooms and served meals. Mr. and Mrs. Osterburg lived in the farmhouse just before our parents [William Sorensen family] bought the property. The house appears to have been built in two sections. The older south section being well built and the north section kind of roughly built. The foundation is red brick. The south section has a full basement with large ledges built of field stone. Some remodeling was done inside in the 60!s and beams taken out were very thick and contained handmade square headed nails. Four of the huge pine trees on the property (only one is still alive) were brought from the World Columbian Exposition in 1893. The house is over 100 years old, but we don't know the exact year it was built. Est. 1868. For a time, the farm house at 550 Campbell served as the Murmuring Pines Lodge. Items was donated by Cynthia Sorensen.
