John Polka c. 1930 - 2006 Portrait of Linda Kinnaman 1940 | watercolor on paper John Polka was born in the Midwest but studied art at the Prado in Madrid, the Julienne Academe in Paris, Michigan State University and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota. This portrait of Linda Kinnaman, a daughter of Peggy Boyce, has a decidedly European flair in its broad strokes, elongated proportions and romantic atmosphere. During his 30 years in Saugatuck, Polka’s style grew bolder and more impressionistic. One of John Polka galleries was located at 125 Water Street (the building directly south of Marro’s) in Saugatuck.
