From the Sept. 2016 SDHC newsletter, "We have a story for the 2017 museum exhibition Cold War: Hot Towns of a motorcycle gang in the early 1960s taking over the land around the Douglas water tower for their campground, causing such a scare that neighborhood kids could no longer walk to the beach unaccompanied by an adult. Other stories tell of how the road to the Oval frequently became a motorcycle race track-day and night."
