Become a Volunteer
The Saugatuck-Douglas History Center is a volunteer-driven organization. For nearly 40 years, hundreds of volunteers have helped shape the History Center in all aspects of its operations. Volunteers from many walks of life bring expertise, experience, and enthusiasm to the Center and its programs. Volunteers are always needed!
Volunteer Positions:
- Greeter – welcome attendees at an event
- Docent – monitor exhibit visitors, answer basic questions, process gift shop purchases (training is provided)
- Hospitality Provider – host refreshments at a monthly membership meeting or other event
- Handyperson – fix small problems as they arise at our facilities
- Garden Nurturer – care for gardens at our facilities
- Fundraiser – raise money for the Center in general, or for a specific project
- Event Coordinator – manage details around an event
- Newsletter Writer – write or edit items for the monthly electronic newsletter
- Archivist – file, organize and enter information about historic artifacts into an online database
- Photographer – document activities at the History Center and the community
- Videographer – operate the video camera at Tuesday Talks and other programs
- Event Support Helpers – help operate equipment at a meeting or program
- Social Media Creator – create content for Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter
Volunteer Awards
The History Center recognizes outstanding volunteers with two awards each year: Volunteer of the Year and the Charles Lorenz Award.
