27. Village Hall

In its simple, Shaker-like classical form, Dutcher Lodge was the most important building in the daily life of early Douglas. As the home of both the Masonic Lodge and the Village Council it was, in effect, the male power center of the village as well as the place for the Saturday night dances, meetings, theatrical performances and community socials. It was named after the mill owner Thomas Benton Dutcher, the lodge’s first Worshipful Master. Until 1969, the Douglas firefighting equipment was housed on the lower level. In 1985, the structure was officially listed on the Michigan Register of Historic Sites. In 2025, the building was sold to a private developers David Isljamovski and silent partner Joseph J. Wise.
