108. Herman Bekken’s Blacksmith Shop

In the days before the automobile, the village was kept on the move by the village blacksmith, who shod the horses, fixed farm tools and built or repaired carriages and wagons. This humble brick building on Washington Street in Douglas is the last of the local blacksmith shops, well preserved by the Bekken family.
