63. Mr. Till’s Barn
Location: 671 Spear Street, Saugatuck
Date: 1895 / Restored, 2005-06

Most local orchards from the early days have disappeared, and most of the old barns have fallen or been destroyed. This barn stands as an historical artifact, preserving the memory of the historic landscape and a tribute to the people who tended to the orchards, picked the fruit, and transported the fruit to distant markets. Henry Julius Till was a ship’s carpenter who married Olga Shumann in 1890. Together, the built the barn for their thriving fruit farm in 1895. The resorted barn is now an artist studio.
