111. A Dog Named Garbage
All sorts of people (and even pets) give a town its character. One Douglas historian’s interest in town characters led to the discovery of the four-footed resident known as “Garbage,” a village dog who roamed the streets in the early 1900s, belonging to no one, but cared for by all. Let him stand for the spirit of individualism that is created and nurtured by small towns like Douglas.
