Two great events
Preservation Month program on Wednesday
A discussion of the National Register of Historic Places with preservation professionals Anna Minnebo and Nathan Nietering is the topic for the May Monthly Meeting at the History Center in Douglas.
All are welcome to this free public program on Wednesday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the historic Douglas Union School at 130 Center St. in Douglas. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources. The Saugatuck Pump House (now History Museum) and Saugatuck Gap Filler Radar Annex on top of Mt Baldhead are both sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
For this program, the SDHC is pleased to welcome Anna Minnebo and Nathan Nietering back to the History Center. An intern with the SDHC in 2020, Anna Minnebo now serves as Preservation Planner for the City of Holland. Nathan Nietering serves Project Coordinator at the State Historic Preservation Office in Lansing. Prior to his role at the SHPO he was Executive Director at the History Center from 2015-2018.
