According to Pat Diepenhorst, Feb. 2021: John had 7 siblings, and a few of the boys also fished. John purchased a lifeboat from the ship, The Alabama, a large steamship that came into town. Pat believes it was a tourist excursion ship but wasn’t certain. John used that lifeboat as a fishing boat, and sold the fish he caught in his market. John had several different jobs and pursuits and was a very hard worker. Kit Lane’s “Western Allegan County” has many details about John and his father’s life.
