Objects 37, 57, and 71 refer to the Gay Awards West Michigan 1986 A Grand Affair Awards Show. The Gay Awards West Michigan (GAWM) was an organization formed “to recognize individuals in Western Michigan for outstanding achievements in their respective areas of talent, skills and-or performances" (71). The 1986 GAWM award show was held at Douglas Dunes on Sunday, May 18, 1986. Tickets were $5.00 and were available for purchase at Douglas Dunes and the Carousel. The event was titled “A Grand Affair” and had performances from Tiffany Ariagus, Odessa Brown, and Diana Black. Audience members arrived at 4:00 for the cocktail party where voting took place. Then at 6:00, after the votes were counted, the awards were presented (37). Photos of the event are archived with the Douglas Dunes photo collection.
