Notes about the collection by Edward Beckman, the donor: "My family has been vacationing here since 1921. Both of my parents used to vacation here for the summer. The Beckman’s from Cincinnati and the Desloge’s from St Louis. I am a permanent resident now but I have relatives that own cottage’s up and down the lakeshore. Buckeye Lodge was on the lakeshore but is no longer there. I think [it was located] around 300 Lakeshore Drive. The Corner House at 2997 Lakeshore is still owned by the family and was built by Captain Reed who was a local ship captain. The house in the background was “Beechwoods”. A lot of the pictures were taken on its grounds. It was our first family residence 3047 Lakeshore drive. The House itself is no longer there but my brother’s house my cousin's house and my house were built on the property. The golf photos were taken in the back yard of “Beechwoods". Our family were avid golfers and did have a season family pass to West Shore which I think cost $35. To my knowledge the photos and videos are all taken in this area. They were certainly grouped together in the family picture albums."
