The page is floridly adorned with two books, flowers growing from an urn, a shield inscribed with "The Union Forever", alternating club and diamond cartouche borders surrounding the text, crossed flags bearing stars and stripes and "Company A 3rd Michigan Calvary." The decorations include red, blue and black ink and were executed with a pen. The paper has a watermark in the lower left corner.
