"None, but the brave deserve the fair," is from "Alexander's Feast" (1697) by English poet John Dryden. The line was also a proverb meaning "success comes to those who dare to act" and was used as a title for many artworks including a 1915 painting by James Shaw Crompton used to promote Pears soap. The 3rd Michigan Cavalry Regiment was a cavalry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The regiment was organized at Grand Rapids, Michigan, and was active from August 24, 1861 to March 15, 1866.
