Scott of McLean County and Doug-las, Michigan, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Wednesday, October 5. Mr. Scott and his wife, the former Lilly May Martin, are natives of Muhlenberg County. His parents were the late John Wesley and Victoria Johnson Scott; hers were the late John Hudson and Nancy Hendricks Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Scott were married on October 5, 1905, at the Antioch Methodist Church at Earles, near Greenville, and the next year moved to McLean County to a farm outside Sacra-mento, which they still operate. In December, 1952, they moved to Holland, Michigan and later to Douglas, locations of Scott's Inc., a metal polishing firm operated by members of the Scott family. They have six children, John H. Scott, Will J Scott and James E. Scott, all of Holland, Michigan; Mrs. Ernest Stroud and Fred G. Scott, both of Douglas and Miss Nancy Rene Scott, Ken-dallville, Indiana and four grandchildren, William Allen Scott and James Frederick Scott, both of Holland; William Christopher Scott, Douglas, and Mrs. James Thomas Vaughn, Lexington. Several activities have been planned in their honor at Douglas. Her brothers had business interests in Michigan including plants that manufactured automobile parts for Ford, General Motors and other companies. Mrs. Stroud taught in the Douglas School and while there earned an M.A. degree from Western Michigan University in 1958. In Remembrance of the Scott Brothers By Nell Vaughn This recognition of four McLean County brothers is long overdue, but as is said, perhaps better late than never. Their story has passed around by word of mouth, but they were never ones to seek publicity on their own. What they did was succeed in Michigan in the world of the auto industry, after World War II. They established a firm called John first worked as a metal finisher for Murray Bodies Company. Murray was building what he called When the war ended, the middle brothers, John and Fred, decided to start a metal finishing business of their own, in Detroit. Scotts' Incorporated was established in 1945. According to John, under the umbrella of Crampton's. In time, the Scott brothers became the majority stockholders in Crampton's. The companies, at one time, had about 5,000 employees and were doing about $50 million in business annually. A number of the employees were from McLean County, Kentucky, and some from other surrounding states. In 1960, there was a shake-up of executives, and John H. Scott became Crampton's President, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Executive Officer. His brother, Will J. became Vice President and retained posts in several of the other umbrella firms. The brother Fred became Vice President in charge of all operations for Crampton's. The brother Jim was always head of maintenance for Scott's Inc., and later Crampton's. Jim had a knack all of his life with machinery—as a young boy, he could take a clock apart and readjust the inner parts so the clock could move across a floor by itself. When he was older, but still a youth, he put together a bunch of parts and made himself a topless John had some grade and high school education, but could never get a diploma because of his asthmatic condition. Yet he was the President of most of the companies with which he was associated. He read a lot as a youth and later became well educated in the practices needed for car manufacturing. From his start in Detroit, John was active among his fellow employees. He recalled once seeing the big time labor leader and union organizer, Walter Reuther. There was some socializing among the top executives of companies because John said he went to The Armory Advertiser, 1965, pulling out all the tops to celebrate Cramco.
