Ludwig Family Photos
Photograph
Six photos
Four are glued to individual cards and then glued to a rectangle of cardboard with a string attached to the top edge. The back of the card identifies the sitters as Olive Lugwig's father, grandparents and aunt from about 1872.
Specifically, from left to right, we see
1. Charles Pelman (or Pelham) Ludwig Jr., boy with cymbals, 1844-1916
2. Grandpa C.P. Ludwig Sr., (Charles Pelham) man with lower-jaw-only beard, 1821-1907
3. Grandma Mary (Groff) Ludwig 1822-1911
4. Olive's aunt Mary "Mattie" Ludwig Johnson, girl with dark curls and necklace, 1864-unkown
5. A tintype print of a couple, the man sitting, the woman standing by his side. The man looks to be C.P. Ludwig Jr. and his 2nd wife Lucia Selkirk of South Haven. They married in 1873. The faux-parlor photo backdrop does not quite fill the frame. A chain running from the woman's collar to a pocket at her corseted waist and her finger ring has been enhanced. The corners have been nipped off the rectangular image. Plate is dented and scuffed and the lower left side is uniformly fading at a different rate. 4x2.75"
6. Real photo postcard, unmailed. "Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Ludwig taken in Ostego - around 1905" is written in the back with ballpoint pen. 5.25x3.5"
