Johnson/Coates/Brittain House demolition

Scan of four color snapshots of the cupola being removed from the Italianate house built ca. 1868 by lumber baron O.R. Johnson. This house was later the home of Captain Charles Coates and Captain R.C. Brittain. About 100 years later in 1967 the building was demolished for a bank parking lot. Commercial Record clipping from Sept. 14, 1967 indicates the photos were taken by Bob Jones and that Walt Corrow and John Drapak worked on the dismantling.

This house once stood at the southwest corner of Griffith and Mason Streets. Some portions of the house were moved to the Peterson Mill property. The cupola may have been repurposed as a boat house for a property along Riverside Drive.
