Ox-Bow Grounds
Print
This is a lithograph made by Francis Chapin, of the grounds at the Oxbow. Chapin was a director and teacher at the Ox-Bow and spent his summers there. In the background a huge dune encloses the forested area. Chapin's sketchy style lends a density to the woods on the right side of this piece. Lithographs such as this one are created by drawing on a stone surface and using an acid bath to carve out negative space for you.
