New river mouth and channel dredging
Photograph
A motor boat cruises toward Lake Michigan, passing between the Saugatuck harbor piers. At the north side pier a dredging team is at work, smoke rising from their chimneys. A digging/excavation grab from a dredging rig is resting on the sand closer to the camera.
Although 1906, the year the new channel was completed, is written on the photo, the power boat suggests a later 1920-1936 dating. "Down at the New Harbor" is also written on the photo.
