Floats for Gill Nets
Object/Artifact
Pair of hollow and sealed aluminum floats (also called corks) for gill nets
2021.06.02
Used for commercial fishing in the great lakes. Replaced wooden floats. Aluminum floats are still used today but have also been replaced by cheaper, plastic floats. Twine was used to tie the floats to the meter line (the heavier rope that created the top edge of the net.)
