This is a woodblock print of a bird in flight by the artist Margo Hoff. This print is an original proof of the design, labeled in the bottom center. A proof means that this is not the final iteration of the piece, but one to see how the print is progressing and experiment with ways to present the final work. The red color of this piece contributes to its name, as the artist deems the time sunset. Hoff uses both red ink and red paper, which desaturates the image of the bird.

Margo Hoff 1910 - 2008 Sunset Flight c. 1960 | Woodcut Print Notes: Margo Hoff was born into a large family in Oklahoma. She began drawing and painting when whe was 13 years old. Hoff was very diverse in production, excelling in woodcut, lithography, cassein, oil, watercolor, crayon, gouache, collage textiles and stained glass. Her most notable training was at the Chicago Institute of Art. Margo was married to artist George Buehr. Their daughter, Mia, was also became an artist. Hoff taught at the Ox-Bow Summer School of Painting in Saugatuck in the 1960s. This mid-century woodcut by Hoff is typical of her printmaking, which was extensive in the 40s and 50s.
