Rain came but only made them go a little faster. I blame the whole thing on a guy named Brando and a movie called “The Wild One.” — Commercial Record, July 8, 1965 After the World War II, motorcycle riders, many of them veterans, formed loosely-organized groups and a new social institution—the motorcycle club — was born. The 1953 film “The Wild One” popularized the outlaw biker persona. Text 2: Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the British Triumph motorcycle, with its powerful parallel twin platform engine, set multiple speed records and race victories. The Triumph’s popularity with celebrities like Steve McQueen, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and stunt performer Evel Knievel gave motorcycling a sheen of glamour and cool. Custer, near Battle Creek. Locations include the Maplewood Hotel, Water Street, Coral Gables, Crow Bar and Oval Beach. Interviews with Tom Johnson, Owner of Old Crow/Coral Gables; Lynn McCray, Mayor of Saugatuck; Dr. Donald Bouma, Western Michigan University, Department of Psychology Film Production: Jeff Davis, producer Marv Chau, director Chuck Lapham, production supervisor Pat Cooper, cinematography Documentary was video recorded from a TV broadcast by Mike Johnson when he was a teen.
