From “Seasons at the Lakeshore” at the History Center 2024-2025 Colleen Bekken 1937-2018 Douglas Bayou 2000 | oil on canvas Lifelong Douglas resident Colleen Bekken painted this tranquil, autumn scene along the Kalamazoo River in 2000 at the age of 63. This broad open area along the river known as Wade’s Bayou creates pleasant views. The open composition of water and forest follows models of classical landscape painting with its stylized trees framing the view.
