Michigan's Delightful Summer Resorts brochure, 1915
2011.27.01
The brochure promoted the area for boating, bathing (swimming and lounging at the beach), canoeing, fishing, duck hunting, dancing at the Big Pavilion, fruit farms, camping, automobiling and renting cottages. Mentions James Fenimore Cooper's Oak Openings, likens the view of Park St. from across the river to Switzerland's lakes and hills, claims Kalamazoo is a hyphenated cognomen of "Kahla" the name of Indian maiden and "Mahzoo" the name of her intrepid lover, and that lost Singapore's population was once 2,000.
