Scope and ContentA card index containing all of Lorenz's research for his book and papers. There are 11,000 index cards, all of which are either handwritten or has some typing on them. Each card contains information on early settlers in Saugatuck, businesses, locations, physicians, and Native Americans. The cards are organized alphabetically by surname or business name and are seperated into several categories. These categories include:Native American research, general information on early settlers, businesses, etc., sawmills, early marriages, and a list of his bibliography sources. Each section is clearly marked with a label or tab with the sections title on it. The cards were a quick reference guide for Lorenz, most likely used for cross referencing while he was writing. Each card contains all of the information that he had on the person or the topic, even if all he had was their birth and death records or that the person was a witness for a wedding in town. Exactly when Lorenz created the catalog is unknown, but it was most likely done during his initial research and while he was writing. 1 cabinet (14 drawers)-index card catalog
