La Rochelle, Nov. 23rd, 18 [1918] Dear friend Jess Two letters and handkerchief received and was more than glad to receive them. How is my thing Jess. and how are you. I am certainly feeling fine and the weather here is swell you would think it was a warm spring day if you were here where I am at. I suppose you all celebrated on Nov. 11th well we certainly did. Whistles were blowing, bells, ringing and cannons roaring every body quit work at noon and all had to have boo coo Vin Blanc, Compry if you don't you should Vin Blanc is ... known as wine back in the States. Say Jess we certainly did enjoy .... Sunday we were on parade 10,000 strong before some French officer and I guess we showed him we could step some what I mean. I do not know why you have not received my letters. I certainly have written quite often, no doubt they are delayed somewhere. I certainly would of liked to have had some of that good eatables you are telling me about anything for a change. Say Jess beware of the Spanish Flu. We have checked over here so we can no go out and visit. I am sending you a souvenir of France let me know when you received it and write often. Pvt. Chas. M [W?] Johnson Co. F. 31st Regiment T.C.
