The painting depicts a log cabin with a well, split rail fence and stumps littering the foreground. In the background a sailboat sails on a body of water. In the far distance mountains or clouds. Text in the lower right corner reads "Home 1840"
The painting's frame is gold with four bands of textured, botanical motifs.
