Join the History Center to learn about the history of the women who helped win World War II on the Home Front. As part of Women’s History Month, Saturday, March 21 is National Rosie the Riveter Day and the SDHC is hosting Debra Wake for a special program. Deb is a member of the American Rosie of the Riveter Association. She earned a BA in History at the University of Michigan before going to work at the Henry Ford Museum in Greenfield Village, collectively now known as the Henry Ford. She spent 25 years at the The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, before retiring in 2020 as Manager of Youth, Family, and Camp Programs. After retiring, she relocated to Holland, Michigan and later worked at the Holland Museum before retiring again in March 2025. Deb is also the former vice president of the Southeast Michigan “WOW” chapter of the American Rosie the Riveter Association and a former Tribute Rosie at the Yankee Air Museum (now the Michigan Flight Museum). Deb continues to honor the amazing women of World War II by conducting oral histories, researching the Rosies of Southwest Michigan, and giving presentations to preserve the legacy of Rosie the Riveter.
