About the Event

Cost: Free

In this powerful and deeply researched presentation, Andrea Riley-Mukavetz explores the interconnected histories of the Anishinaabeg trails and mounds in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Drawing from oral histories, archival research, and community activism, she challenges settler-colonial narratives and highlights the enduring presence, sovereignty, and resistance of the Gete Anishinaabeg. Through stories of desecration, displacement, and reclamation, Andrea invites audiences to reconsider the landscape of Grand Rapids and to honor Indigenous knowledge, memory, and stewardship. Andrea Riley Mukavetz, PhD, is the Community Engagement Manager in the Communications Department at the City of Grand Rapids.
