About the Event
This program examines the history of Dutcher Lodge from its original construction in 1867, its 1902 expansion, and 1990-2025 history as Douglas City Hall. From its beginning the Douglas meeting hall on Center Street was jointly occupied by the Dutcher Masonic Lodge and Village government. By 1990 the city took full ownership and from 1991 through 2005, the Douglas Historic Preservation Committee raised over $150,000 to rehabilitate the building and “return the building to a gathering place and cultural center” for the community.
As the City of Douglas prepares to move to its new administrative center on Blue Star and Wiley Road, the city has listed the historic Dutcher Lodge for sale. Learn more about the history of this building and share ideas for its preservation at this event held on Wednesday, May 21 at 6 PM at the historic Douglas Union School at 130 Center Street in Douglas. Audience participation is welcomed to enrich the discussion.
