About the Event
The Saugatuck-Douglas District Library, in partnership with Community Pride MI and the Saugatuck Douglas History Center, proudly presents a special Pride Month event: “Archiving Lesbian History: From Sports to Music” featuring acclaimed historian Dr. Bonnie J. Morris, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
Join us for an enriching evening that begins with a 4:00 PM reception at the History Center (130 Center Street, Douglas), where guests can meet Dr. Morris and explore the exhibit Century of Progress: 100 Years of LGBTQ History in Saugatuck-Douglas. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
At 5:30 PM, the evening continues with a thought-provoking lecture by Dr. Morris at the Saugatuck-Douglas District Library (174 Center Street, Douglas). A nationally recognized authority on women’s sports history and lesbian culture, Dr. Morris will speak on the vital role of preserving lesbian history—from the field to the stage. Her work as an archivist for Olivia Records and organizer of the first women’s music exhibit at the Library of Congress underscores her dedication to safeguarding this often-overlooked cultural legacy.
