Notes: Information supplied by daughter, Patricia Wiersma Val Smith was born in Saugatuck and attended Saugatuck Schools. Served in armed forces and European theater until 1945 when he returned home. He was the Saugatuck postmaster until retirement in 1974. Past commander of Saugatuck American Legion, post service officer for 25 years, and Allegan Country Representative for Vetrans Trust Fund. Val passed away Sept. 12, 1975 Jean Smith was born in Glenn, Michigan and served in the armed forces at Moffet Field, San Diego, California. Returned home and was president of the Saugatuck Women's Club, Election Board of Directors, worthy matron for the Eastern Star and Representative for for Eastern Star for the state of Texas. Here they raised their family. Jean passed Feb.18,1998 Note: Patricia's great uncle. Howard Schultz is the name sake for Schultz Park in Douglas.
